Istanbul roaster placed fourth at the 2014 World Coffee Roasting Championship.

The Rimini result sits alongside a first place at the SCAE Roasting Challenge Turkey. Petra roasts on a 12-kilogram Probat with modified burners, to a Scandinavian profile. Kaan Bergsen left mixology for coffee, working at Stumptown and Toby's Estate in New York, before founding Petra with Can Duna in 2013. The company imports its coffee directly rather than through Turkish importers.

The Gayrettepe shop had Istanbul's first La Marzocco Strada, with a Mahlkönig EK43 for filter and Anfim grinders for espresso. Petra has been the Istanbul distributor for Anfim, Chemex, Baratza, and KeepCup.

The kiosk opens onto Giz2000 Plaza's covered common area, with no wall or door of its own: three glass-fronted counters, for the kitchen pass, pastry case and coffee bar, run along the indoor walkway on polished concrete. A barista works behind the bar under an origami-folded plywood wall by Geo_ID studio, sheltered by an angled steel truss strung with lights. Outside, a terrace glazed floor to ceiling looks across the plaza atrium to a lit bookshop opposite.
