'Downstairs' in Turkish: a Moda café in its designers’ office building.

The first shop opened in August 2021 on the ground floor of Naif Tasarım's office building in Moda, and the studio designed its interior around vintage pieces. The logo turns the A upside down so it points downstairs. A second shop on Karakolhane Caddesi in Yeldeğirmeni has high ceilings and seats outside.

The coffee comes from Kafein Kültür, a Turkish specialty roaster, including Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Idido and Guatemalan Antigua single origins and an Azure filter blend. It is served as V60 and espresso, alongside croissants and gelato.

At this shop

Creeper hangs over the cream awning of the red-painted front, and a mosaic floor spells ALTKAT across the threshold. Inside, a carved wooden bar with a marble top runs across the back of a small room, under glass-fronted cabinets trailing plants, with a red velvet curtain behind. Most of the seats are outside, at folding wooden tables on the pavement.
